I looked at my two young grandsons and thought, what will this state, this country look like in ten years if something drastic does not happen? Can I really sit this out while our public schools are being dismantled, our working families cannot afford health or property insurance and our cost of living is out pacing our wages due to greedy corporations not wanting to do right by their employees? NO! I cannot.

This is the year we begin to take back Tallahassee from the MAGA Republicans who are more beholden to their false god in the White House than the people who elected them.

I am a 27 year educator in the public school system in Florida, and a continuing member of the National Education Association, the American Federation of Teachers, and the AFL-CIO. Since 2010, I have been organizing on behalf of the union, and have been very involved on a leadership level.  I have  sat down with legislators and lobbied in Tallahassee for education, unions and working families. This year's session will be my 15th.

There are laws that need changed: the voucher law, the co-location law,  the anti- choice law for women, the laws protecting corporations, the union busting laws, and many more. New laws need to be crafted. Those protecting employee rights, our vote, civil rights protections, saving our infrastructure, including addressing the terrible flooding our citizens are enduring, and a return to a women's right to choose.

They break the laws every session. Our governor knows he has a good chance of getting away with these infractions because he bought the Florida Supreme Court. 

Working families need relief. Relief from increasing health insurance costs, relief from out of control property insurance companies, relief from an ever widening income inequality. Florida workers deserve a living wage, affordable health care and safe working conditions. They also deserve to retire with dignity. We must not only safeguard Social Security and Medicare, but all state sponsored pensions.

We must save our public schools. The Republican plan is to push our kids into the private schools where they will learn their history, their science, their way of thinking. But not all kids. Not brown, black, gay or learning/ physically disabled. Those kids will stay in the unfunded public schools.   In other words, our tax dollars are going to pay to segregate our schools!

Is Florida really free? Are you free to have your tax dollars used for public education? Are you free to have your child read the books you want, not those that one or two parents think are acceptable? Are women free to choose the best health care for themselves and their family? Are you free as a member of the LGBTQ+ community to be safe from harm or discrimination? Are we free to have our kids safe from diseases that have been successfully controlled for decades only to be revived with draconian vaccination dogma?

Resistance can be expressed on the streets, in marches and rallies, but now is the time we take back our government, by the people, of the people, for the people! 

I am ready to fight them where they are- in our Capital. I ask that you send me to Tallahassee to represent your best interests- not theirs!
